Frequently Asked Questions

How does the CSS Gradient Text Generator work?
Type your text, choose linear, radial, or conic gradient, then add and position color stops. The tool layers a gradient background with background-clip:text and transparent fill to paint the gradient inside the letters. Preview updates live as you edit.
Can I use gradient text with Tailwind CSS?
Yes. Copy the Tailwind output using bg-clip-text and text-transparent with bg-gradient-to-r / from- / via- / to- utilities. The tool generates both standard CSS and Tailwind v3/v4 classes so you can paste directly into your project.
Why does my gradient text not work in Safari or older Chrome?
WebKit browsers require vendor prefixes. Always include -webkit-background-clip:text alongside background-clip:text, and set both color:transparent and -webkit-text-fill-color:transparent. The tool outputs all four lines by default so Safari renders correctly.
Is gradient text accessible? How do I check contrast?
Gradient text can fail contrast if stops are too light. Test the lightest stop against the page background with our color-contrast-checker to meet WCAG AA (4.5:1 for body text). Use darker stops, add a fallback color, and avoid thin fonts for small sizes.
Can I download my gradient text as PNG or SVG?
Yes. Use Export PNG to download a transparent-background image of your styled text for social posts or thumbnails, or copy the inline SVG version with gradient fill for crisp scaling. CSS and Tailwind copy options are included too.
Is this gradient text maker free and private? Do I need to sign up?
Yes, it is 100% free with unlimited use and no account needed. Everything runs locally in your browser — your text and colors never leave your device and nothing is stored or tracked.

How to Calculate

The tool builds text gradients by combining background: linear-gradient(...) with background-clip:text, -webkit-background-clip:text, color:transparent and -webkit-text-fill-color:transparent. The background paints the gradient box, background-clip clips it to the glyph shapes, and transparent fill lets the gradient show through the letters.

About the CSS Gradient Text Generator

The CSS Gradient Text Generator creates true text gradients, not background boxes — it paints a linear gradient behind your words and clips it to the letterforms with background-clip:text and -webkit-text-fill-color:transparent. Unlike a section background, the gradient moves with each glyph, with live controls for type, angle, stops, fonts, and fallbacks plus Tailwind bg-clip-text output.

Start from one-click presets inspired by Instagram, sunset, ocean, and multicolor neon styles, then customize stops or export as CSS, Tailwind, SVG, or transparent PNG. Everything runs locally in your browser with no uploads, and there is no account or signup needed — open, style, and copy your code.
