Comprehensive Guide to the Daily Habit Tracker
Our Daily Habit Tracker is a free, privacy-first online web application designed to help you build consistency, track numeric goals, and monitor your long-term progress. Featuring advanced 365-day heatmaps and streak calculations, it gives you the analytical power of a premium app without requiring a signup or subscription.
How to Use the Daily Habit Tracker
- Create a Habit: Enter your habit name (e.g., "Reading"), set a numeric target (e.g., "10"), and a unit (e.g., "pages"). Choose a custom color theme and click Add.
- Log Daily Progress: For binary goals (like "Drink Water"), simply click the large Checkbox. For numeric goals, type your exact progress into the daily input field. The system automatically marks it "Achieved!" when you hit your target.
- Monitor Weekly History: Review the 7-day calendar view on each card to visually track your consistency over the past week.
- Analyze Deep Stats: Click the "Details" accordion on any habit card to instantly reveal your Best Streak, Total Completions, and an advanced 365-day Yearly Heatmap.
How We Calculate Your Progress
Current & Best Streaks
The algorithm calculates your Current Streak by counting backwards from today (or yesterday, if today is incomplete) until it finds a missed day. Your Best Streak is the longest continuous chain of days you have ever achieved since creating the habit.
365-Day Heatmap
Similar to developer contribution graphs, our Yearly Heatmap generates exactly 365 visual blocks representing the past year. Days you successfully hit your numeric target are colored brightly, while missed days remain muted, giving you an instant visual of your long-term consistency.
Numeric Goal Tracking
Instead of simple pass/fail options, you can track exact numbers (e.g., 5 out of 10 pages). The system stores your fractional progress daily and only calculates a "completion" towards your streak if your logged number meets or exceeds your set target.
Daily Dashboard Progress
Your master progress bar at the top of the dashboard calculates the percentage of total habits completed today. It dynamically updates as you mark items done, turning into a satisfying green gradient when you reach 100%.
